Told/Untold/Retold at Mathaf Arab Museum of Modern Art, Doha / Qatar

Mathaf, the Arab Museum of Modern Art opened in Doha, Qatar on 30 December 2010 as part of the celebrations for Doha as the 2010 City of Arab Culture. Mathaf is located in a converted school building on the edge of Education City. The building has been re-designed by the French architect Jean-François Bodin.

The museum opened with the exhibition Sajjil: a Century of Modern Art that showcases a cross-section of art from the Arab world produced over the last hundred years. In this segment we have a look at a second exhibition at Mathaf’s Al-Riwaq Art Space, titled Told/Untold/Retold: 23 stories of journeys through tme and place. This show presents new works commissioned by Mathaf from 23 contemporary artists with roots in the Arab world. The show includes painting, sculpture, photography, video, multimedia installations and interactive digital art. The participating artists are Adel Abidin, Sadik Kwaish Alfraji, Buthayna Ali, Ahmed Alsoudani, Ghada Amer, Kader Attia, Lara Baladi, Wafaa Bilal, Abdelkader Benchamma, Mounir Fatmi, Lamia Joreige, Amal Kenawy, Jeffar Khaldi, Hassan Khan, Youssef Nabil, Walid Raad, Khalil Rabah, Younès Rahmoun, Steve Sabella, Marwan Sahmarani, Zineb Sedira, Khaled Takreti, and Akram Zaatari. Told / Untold / Retold is curated by Sam Bardouil and Till Fellrath.
