VTV Classics (r3): Robert Mapplethorpe: A Season in Hell / Patti Smith (2009)

In 2009, VernissageTV documented the opening of the Robert Mapplethorpe exhibition A Season in Hell at Alison Jacques gallery in London. In addition to a range of works in a variety of media, 5 major early works were on display for the first time in a European gallery, a series of collages from 1968-69 when Robert Mapplethorpe was living with Patti Smith at the Chelsea Hotel in New York City. On the occasion of the opening of the exhibition, Patti Smith performed several songs, including an a capella version of her song Because the Night, with the support from the audience.

Our series r3 highlights the treasures of VernissageTV’s huge archive. R3 is a series of VernissageTV classics, now re-mastered, re-edited and reissued in High Definition. Click here for the complete list of videos. Click here for the original post.
