Comic Strip, Passion’s Trip – Matucana 100

Between January 5th and 28th 2007, the Matucana 100 Cultural Centre in Santiago de Chile presented the group exhibition Comic Strip, Passon’s Trip. This travelling exhibition comissioned by the Belgian Government is intended to promote the contemporary Belgian comic art scene, from its roots in the generation of Hergé to the younger generation whose work merges classic comic book storytelling with a more avantgarde approach that breaks the boundaries of the medium itself. In Matucana 100, the works of Belgian comic book artists meet those of Chilean artists and a fruitful dialogue ensues. Curator Jean-Marie Derscheid explains the idea behind this exhibition and reflects on the situation of contemporary comics and art. By VTV correspondent Pau Waelder.
