Krzysztof Zielinski: Millennium School / Galerie Magazin, Berlin

February 13, 2008

The title of Krzysztof Zieliński’s exhibition “Millennium School” at Galerie Magazin in Berlin refers to schools erected in Poland in the years 1958-69 by the communist party. The “millennium memorial schools”-program (Polish: “szkoły tysiąclecia”) was a propaganda plan, with the new schools presented as a gift from the party to the nation. Krzysztof Zieliński’s series of photographs is a journey into the arist’s own past but in the same time explores the historical and political background. Krzysztof Zieliński was born 1951 in Wabrzezno, Poland. The Millennium School cycle consists of 44 photographs, a selection of 18 works is presented at the Galerie Magazin exhibition in Berlin. Impressions from the opening reception, February 1, 2008.
