In the exhibition “This Place is Close and Unfolded” at Westfälischer Kunstverein the Scottish artist Martin Boyce (*1967) is dealing once again with references to Modernism. A photography in a book about french gardens of Modernism is the basis and an important source for Boyce’s recent works. It shows four trees made of concrete, designed by Joël and Jan Martel for the Exposition des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, 1925. For the artist these are “a perfect collapse of architecture and nature”. Our correspondent Thom de Bock spoke with the Artistic Director Carina Plath (who curated together with Brigitte Franzen and Kasper König the Skulpturen Projekte Münster 07) about the show of Martin Boyce which is on display from April 19 until June 6, 2008. At the end of the movie we present Martin Boyce’s contribution for Skulpturen Projekte Münster 07. In cooperation with Ikon Gallery and with the support of the Henry Moore Foundation and British Council a catalogue will be published.
