D’une révolution à l’autre / Carte blanche à Jeremy Deller / Palais de Tokyo, Paris

September 30, 2008

Every year the Palais de Tokyo gives an artist carte blanche. After Ugo Rondinone in 2007, this year Jeremy Deller was free to devise and stage an exhibition at the renowned contemporary art space in Paris, France.
Jeremy Deller (born 1966) lives and works in London. In 2004 he was awarded the prestigious Turner Prize. In 2005 he presented his “Folk Archive” at Kunsthalle Basel (one of the very first shows VernissageTV covered, by the way).
The “Folk Archive”, which assembles British folklore items and documents such as customized motorbike helmets or banners from demonstration and which he put together with Alan Kane, is also the starting point for his exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo, “D’une révolution à l’autre” (From one revolution to another). The show takes its visitors from the British Industrial Revolution to the contemporary digital revolution. For this, Jeremy Deller invited 9 other guests: Peter Clare, Ed Hall, Alan Kane, Scott King, Matthew Price, William Scott, Andrei Smirnov, Marc Touché, White Columns.
In this video, VernissageTV correspondent Christophe Ecoffet meets up with Jeremy Deller who introduces us to his Carte Blanche.
