Bruce Weber: Haiti / Little Haiti / Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami

December 9, 2010

Through February 13, 2011, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), North Miami presents an exhibition of photographs of Miami’s Haitian community by photographer Bruce Weber. The show with the title Haiti / Little Haiti shows approximately 75 photographs, taken from 2003 to 2010. VernissageTV shot the show during the MOCA & Vanity Fair International Party on November 30, 2010.

Bruce Weber is known for his fashion and celebrity photography. Haiti / Little Haiti focuses on Miami’s Haitian community. The photographs were Bruce Weber’s response to an unjust U.S. immigration system in which Haitian’s were detained indefinitely unlike refugees from other countries who were typically released to family or friends while awaiting asylum hearings. Weber started to chonicle the live in the Haitian community from 2003 to the present. For Haiti / Little Haiti Weber chose primarily to work in black-an-white, but switched to color film when photographing Haitian Flag Day celebrations.

Bruce Weber: Haiti / Little Haiti is organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami and is curated by MOCA Executive Director and Chief Curator Bonnie Clearwater.
