Daniel Canogar: Travesí­as / Canal Isabel II, Madrid / Spain

Spanish artist Daniel Canogar currently has three solo exhibitions in Madrid: “Spin” at Galeria Max Estrella, “Vórtices” at Fundací­on Canal, and Travesí­as at Canal Isabel II. Travesias is a piece that Daniel Canogar created especially for the atrium of the Justus Lipsius building of the European Union Council. It was exhibited there from January to June of 2010, coinciding with the Spanish Presidency of the European Union. From February to May 2011 the work is now presented in an old water tower in Madrid.

Travesias is an LED screen of 33 x 1.65 meters in dimension. The screen has an undulating shape, it displays people crawling and climbing.

Daniel Canogar was born in Madrid in 1964. He lives and works in Madrid. Canogar earned a Masters Degree specializing in photography from New York University and the International Center for Photography in 1990. His work has been exhibited widely at places such as the Reina Sofia in Madrid; Centro de Arte Santa Monica, Barcelona; Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, Ohio; Kunstsammlung Nordrhein Westfalen, Düsseldorf; and Hamburger Bahnhof, Museum für Gegenwart in Berlin.
