Design studio DRIFT was founded by Ralph Nauta (born 1978) and Lonneke Gordijn (1980), both graduates from Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands. At Design Miami Basel and the exhibition Design High at Louise Blouin Foundation in London they presented their modular light object “Fragile Future”. “Fragile Future 3.4″ is an installation consistent of modules that combine an electronical system with LED lights and real dandelions. Fragile Future was awarded the price “Light of the Future” by the German Design Council in 2008. It also received the first prize in Dutch art competition “Artiparti” and the Young Talent Prize of “Stichting MS-Research”.
DRIFT designs products, projects and concepts for interior and public spaces. In this interview, Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta talk about their piece Fragile Future, what they want to achieve with their projects, the role of nature and sustainability in their work, and their new project SHY Light.

In partnership with Carpenters Workshop Gallery, Louise Blouin Foundation in London presents a group exhibition of design art with works by Atelier van Lieshout, Drift, Ingrid Donat, Joris Laarman, Lionel Scoccimaro, Marc Quinn, Mathieu Lehaneur, Pablo Reinoso, Rainer Splitt, rAndom International, Robert Stadler, Sebastian Brajkovic, Thierry Dreyfus, Vincent Dubourg and Wendell Castle.
VernissageTV attended the opening reception and spoke with the curator of Design High, Natalie Kovacs. In this video, Natalie Kovacs talks about the title and the concept of the exhibition, the convergence of design, art and architecture, and specific works like Atelier van Lieshout’s Wombhouse and Mahieu Lehaneur’s Local River.

British artist Richard Long is a pioneer of Land and Conceptual art. Richard Long is widely recognized as one of the most important artists to have emerged since the 1960s. Haunch of Venison Berlin presents a solo exhibition with two large semi-circular works by Richard Long: A sculpture in local stone on the floor and a drawing in river Avon mud on the wall. On the gallery mezzanine Long shows a selection of new driftwood works and a new group of prints based on his own handprint. Together with Jan Kaplicky Amanda Levete heads Future Systems, an architectural and design practice based in London. Future Systems realized many prestigious projects such as retails designs for Comme des Garçons in New York, Tokyo and Paris and the Selfridges department store in Birmingham. For Established & Sons Amanda Levete designed the sofa “Chester” and the bench “Drift”.
