Robert Gober at Schaulager, Basel / part 2/2

Robert Gober at Schaulager, Basel
Robert Gober: Work 1976-2007 at Schaulager Basel (May 12 – October 14, 2007). The fifth exhibition at the unique Schaulager is dedicated to the work of the American artist Robert Gober. “Childhood, sexuality, memory, loss, religion and discrimination are themes that have always preoccupied Gober and for which he has developed his own unique pictorial language, influenced by Surrealism and by Minimal and Conceptual Art, though all read very much against the grain.” (PR Schaulager). A programme of events will accompany the exhibition. There’s a catalogue, the first complete listing of Robert Gober’s sculptures and installations from 1979 to 2007. Impressions from the exhibition, May 9, 2007. Part 2/2.

Robert Gober at Schaulager, Basel / part 1/2

Robert Gober at Schaulager, Basel
With approximately forty sculptures, five large-scale installations, several groups of drawings and photographs Robert Gober: Work 1976-2007 at Schaulager Basel is by far the largest exhibition of Robert Gober’s work to date. For this retrospective the Schaulager team has taken great care to reconstruct installations – some for the first time since they were created – and assemble a large number of works, the earliest of which are scarcely known at all and the most recent of which have never been exhibited before. Robert Gober: Work 1967-2007 (May 12 – October 14, 2007), Schaulager Basel, Switzerland. Part 1/2 with impressions from the media day and statements by the director / curator Theodora Fischer (in German and English), May 9, 2007.
