In her second solo show in New York, “Dead People Don’t Scream”, VALIE EXPORT examines the cultural spectrum, combining forces from societal realms with those of power at a universal level. The diverse collection is characterized by a subversive use of various strands of her work, including sculptures, photography, film and sound installations. (PR GG). VALIE EXPORT (born 1940 in Linz, Austria) lives and works in Vienna. In 1967 she invented her artist name VALIE EXPORT: an artistic concept and logo to be written in capital letters only. Since 2005 VALIE EXPORT is member of the supervisory board Linz – Europe’s Cultural Capital 2009. VALIE EXPORT: Dead People Don’t Scream at Klemens Gasser & Tanja Grunert, New York. VALIE EXPORT (born 1940 in Linz, Austria, as Waltraud Lehner) is one of the leading pioneers of feminist Video Art of the 1960s and 1970s. VALIE EXPORT was Professor for Multimedia Performance at the Kunsthochschule für Medien (Academy of Media Arts) in Cologne from 1995 to 2005. VALIE EXPORT exhibited at documenta 6 in 1977 and at the Venice Biennale in 1980 (with fellow Austrian artist Maria Lassnig). VALIE EXPORT is represented by Charim Galerie, Vienna. Art Cologne, November 2, 2006.
