Bernardí Roig - The Light-Exercises Series / Kunstmuseum Bonn
Inspired by the myth of Diana and Actaeon, the prose of Thomas Bernhard and the art of Pierre Klossowski among many other sources, Majorcan artist Bernardí Roig has created a densely intellectual body of work that reflects on the defeat of painting and the gaze of the beholder as a form of aggression. The light in these works does not reveal, but on the contrary it prevents from seeing. Even though the artist combines installation, sculpture, drawing and video, he sees himself only as a “maker of images” that will cause “the irritation and erection of the eye”.
This retrospective exhibition has been commissioned by SEACEX (Ministery of Foreign Affairs of Spain) and is curated by Pilar Ribal. After taking place in the DA2 in Salamanca (Spain), it is now being shown at the Kunstmuseum Bonn (Germany), and will travel to the Kampa Museum in Prague and the PMMK in Oostende (Belgium) during the next year.
Opening: July, 28th at Kunstmuseum Bonn. By VTV correspondent Pau Waelder.
