Das Kapital – Blue Chips & Masterpieces / MMK Frankfurt am Main / part 2/2

Das Kapital – Blue Chips & Masterpieces (March 21 – August 26, 2007), Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt am Main. Impressions from the opening, April 20, 2007. Part 2/2.
About the museum: In 1981 the City of Frankfurt am Main, Germany, acquired a number of outstanding American and European works of art dating from the 1960s. They had originally formed a key part of the collection of Darmstadt industrialist Karl Ströher, who died in 1977. In 1983 an open design competition was held to decide what the museum should look like. On May 17, 1983 Hans Hollein, a Viennese architect, was awarded the first prize and was commissioned to handle the project. The Museum für Moderne Kunst was baptized the “slice of cake” by locals, due to its triangular shape.
