Andreas Fogarasi / Hungarian Pavilion / La Biennale di Venezia

At the 52nd International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia we met the artist who has been chosen to represent Hungary at the 2007 edition of the Biennale, Andreas Fogarasi (born 1977). His project “Kultur und Freizeit” (Culture and Leisure) consists of a series of single channel videos, all showing the present state of cultural centres in contemporary Budapest, projected in separate black boxes which both physically and structurally include the spectators. The project foucses on cultural peripheries and the changing locations of popular culture. La Biennale di Venezia, June 7, 2007.

Update (October 17, 2007): The Hungarian Pavilion with Andreas Fogarasi’s project “Kultur und Freizeit (Culture and Leisure)”, curated by Katalin Timár has won the Golden Lion for Best National Participation of the 52nd International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia. Congratulations!
