The Wilhelm Lehmbruck Museum is showing a few selected sculptures, drawings and photographs by British artist Rachel Whiteread (* 1963) who won the August Seeling Prize 2007 (which is awarded every 4 years). Rachel Whiteread’s works are produced with the molding technique of “lost shape”, with Whiteread using not only plaster and wax but also industrial materials such as rubber, concrete and polyester resin. She is conserving the lost space, a transformation from the empty positive to the filled negative: a debris of the space which doesn’t exist anymore. The show runs from 21th October until 13th January 2008. By Thom de Bock.
PS: Rachel Whiteread won the Turner Prize in 1993.
