In the second part of the interview with Rosa de la Cruz, the collector talks about her background, the educational program of the collection, the reasons why their collection includes many works by German artists, and a special room with works by Ana Mendieta. In the first part of this conversation with Sabine Trieloff, Rosa de la Cruz talks about the idea behind the new space and the architecture of the building.
The new three-story, 30,000 sq. ft. space that serves as an extension of the collector’s home also includes project rooms that will rotate throughout the year. One of the project rooms will provide a forum for local artists to display their works. The new art space will also have an educational component. A reading and research center with selections from the de la Cruz’s personal art library will open to the local community, artists and students. Throughout the year the program and lecture series will concentrate on creating public awareness of art history and contemporary art practices.
