SEO was born as Soo-Kyoung Seo in Gwangju / Korea in 1977. After attending the Gwangju School of Arts and studies at Cho-sun University in Gwangju, she moved to Berlin, Germany in 2001 to study with Prof. Georg Baselitz at Universität der Künste UdK. From 2003 to 2004 she was Masterstudent of Georg Baselitz. SEO received numerous awards and participated in the biennials in Beijing, Liverpool, Shanghai, Fusing, Prague, and Gwangju.
In her work, SEO unites Asian and European elements. Her artistic technique is quite unique: She uses thousands of paper strips in an endless number of colors that she glues to the canvas to compose her works. VernissageTV met with SEO in her studio in Berlin. In the conversation with Dr. Bettina Krogemann, SEO talks about her decision to move to Berlin, the importance of Baselitz for her artistic development, the subject matter of her works, and the creation process.
