Thomas Müllenbach: Halboriginal at Rotwand Gallery, Zürich

Halboriginal is the title of a two weeks special project at Rotwand Gallery in Zürich. Since 2005 Swiss artist Thomas Müllenbach has collected every flyer and exhibition invitation that has been sent to him. Then he has reinterpreted these invitations in watercolors. The gallery Rotwand is now showcasing a group of over 400 of these watercolors. Among them are invitations for exhibitions with artists such as Albrecht Dürer, General Idea, Sigmar Polke, Jasper Johns, Dawn Mellor, and many others.

Thomas Muellenbach has produced over 600 of these watercolors so far in his very own painting style. The title of the exhibition – “Halboriginal” (Half Original) – refers to the sly term used in the Balkans for commercial counterfeit watches and fashion articles.

Thomas Müllenbach is born in 1949. He lives in Zürich.
