Empty Zones. Russian Pavilion, Venice Art Biennale 2011

Andrei Monastyrski and the Collective Actions group represent Russia at the 54th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia in Venice, Italy. The Collective Actions group was founded by Andrei Monastyrski in 1976. Its members are Nikita Alekseev, Elena Elagina, Georgy Kizevalter, Igor Makarevich, Andrei Monastyrski, Nikolai Panitkov, Sergei Romashko, and Sabine Hänsgen. Nikita Alekseev and Georgy Kizevalter left the group in 1983 and 1989 respectively.

The exhibition at the Russian Pavilion is titled Empty Zones and provides an overview of the work of the group. To date the Collective Actions group has performed 125 actions. The exhibition has been curated by Boris Groys.
