Galerie Lena Brüning in Berlin / Germany presents for the first time in Europe works by the Japanese artist Hiroki Tsukuda. In his new series of black and white drawings titled New Tokyo, he deals with the nuclear crisis in Fukushima.
Tokyo has changed after 11 March 2011. Conventional, absolute things have disappeared. In everyday life we can’t depend on essential things such as gravitational force, air, and firm ground any more.
The government and the media don’t come clean on this situation. We must take over responsibility and make our own decisions for our lives. In a way, we have been abandoned by all concepts but it also could be said that we have been released from the past world. It is the beginning of a new Tokyo.
