Gabriel Barcia-Colombo is a New Media artist based in New York City. For the DUMBO Arts Festival 2011 he created an audio-visual installation that consists of 24 video mapped clocks. The audience can manipulate the clocks via a crank that speeds up or slows down the clocks. The exhibition space is filled with a cacophony of ticking and kinetic motion. At some point the clocks get destroyed. The installation is titled For Those Who Wait. It’s Gabriel Barcia-Colombo’s second installation that he presents at the DUMBO Arts Festival after his 2010 installation Garden. In this video Gabriel Barcia-Colombo talks about his installation For Those Who Wait, future projects, and his work in general.
Gabriel Barcia-Colombo was born in Los Angeles. He received his B.A. in film production from U.S.C. and his Master’s from the Interactive Telecommunications Program at N.Y.U. He serves as an adjunct professor at N.Y.U. In 2008 he was awarded both the Concordia Career Advancement grant and the NYFA grant for video. He won honorable mention at the 2007 Ars Electronica and recently also created the 2011 spring window display at Hugo Boss.
