Studio Job: Containers II / VIVID Gallery, Design Miami 2011

For Design Miami 2011, Galerie VIVID of Rotterdam realized its second solo presentation with works by Studio Job. The main attraction of the presentation are five new unique pieces, Containers II. In this video, VIVID Gallery Co-Founder Aad Krol talks about Studio Job and their new works.

In 2010 Studio Job created Piece for Peace in association with the Belgian crystal producer Val Saint Lambert. The piece was designed for the Cabinet of Van Rompuy, President of the European Council in Brussels. During a visit to the company, Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel discovered a large supply of hundered years old, hand-blown crystal pieces that were never crafted into finished products. They selected five old vessels and designed a new series of unique pieces that they titled Containers II. The series includes a coffee pot, a waste basket, a pickelhaube, a saucepan and a saucepan. “Containers II are full of paradoxes: the functional and the surreal, rich and poor, good and evil, high culture and low pop.” (VIVID Gallery).

Galerie VIVID was founded by Saskia Copper and Aad Krol in 1999. The gallery was among the first to show contemporary design in the context of both design and art.
