Art Openings Beijing October 2012, part 2

In 798 Art Zone, Long March Space presents ‘Form of the Formless’ a solo show by Zhan Wang, one of the most important contemporary multimedia artists in China today. His practice in sculpture challenges the conventional ideas about time and space, breaking with conventional perspectives on distance, perspectives and proportions of microscopic substances. In this project the artist investigates the form and formless properties of materials in their actual configuration in relation to the surrounding space.

Christie’s auctions, the worlds leading in art business, are touring to nine cities in Asia this autumn 2012. In the Beijing previews are included works of art by Asian contemporary and modern masters as Sanyu, Zao Wou-Ki and Zhou Chunya between others. Also is a selection of important Chinese ceramics, jewellery and rare collectible watches from leading makers as Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe.

Faurschou Foundation shows Louise Bourgeois first retrospective in China ‘Alone and Together’, curated by Jerry Gorovoy. The selection of works reveals central themes of Bourgeois autobiographical art, as the unconscious, anxiety, pain and pleasure, but also the paradoxes of the self, struggling between the loneliness and the necessity to connect with others.
Jerry Gorovoy was Louise Bourgeois assistant for more than 30 years. He is a profound expert of her work. In September 2011, VernissageTV recorded a conversation with Dr. Ulf Küster, the curator of the exhibition Louise Bourgeois: À L’Infini at Fondation Beyeler in which Jerry Gorovoy talks about the different aspects of Louise Bourgeois’ work and his personal experiences with the artist: Louise Bourgeois: í€ L’Infini. In Caochangdi Art District, C-Space displays the self titled exhibition of Woody Van Amen, facing the culture of East and West in modern times. Also the space shows ‘You and Me’, a collective exhibition about love and trying to make something work, with artists as Robbin Heyker, Chen Xinpeng, Gao Feng and Zhang Zhaohong. And Matthias Küper Galleries Beijing presents ‘Draftsmanship’ with Cai Dongdong, curated by Kang Xueru, a show on photography and installation, questioning the traditional art display in a gallery space.
