Berlinde de Bruyckere at Galleria Continua, Beijing

Galleria Continua in Beijing presents the first solo exhibition in China by the Belgian artist Berlinde De Bruyckere. The artist has been using organic materials since 1990s, such as horse hair, skin, wood, wax, and many others as a starting point to produce disturbing and alienated sculptures.

Her works stages the dualism between life and death, suffering and love, investigating the fragile tenderness, precariousness and vulnerability of human existence. The figures, always incomplete and faceless, are the portrait of a fragmentary existence, always combining raw and delicate, strength and power, sensuality and suffering.

The exhibition runs until March 17, 2013. The artist is going to represent Belgium at the 55 Venice Biennale in 2013.
