The exhibition New Figuration at Hadrien de Montferrand Gallery in Beijing presents works by the artists Chen Han, Guo Hongwei, Lu Chao, Zhang Shujian, and Zhu Xinyu.
New Figuration: Chaper 1 at Hadrien de Montferrand Gallery shows the works by Chen Han, Guo Hongwei, Lu Chao, Zhang Shujian and Zhu Xinyu. Zhang Shujian sketches photorealistic portraits of himself and his girlfriend in a playful and vital way. Lu Chao takes us away from human figures into still life and landscape, evoking the Taoist idea that nature essence and human nature essence are naturally aligned and interconnected. Guo Hongwei depicts exquisite naturalistic watercolours of insects and butterflies, with reminiscence to the content of Victorian mahogany butterfly cabinets. Chen Han’s oil paintings of people in interiors approach the feeling of black cinema and Won Kar-Wai films. Finally, Zhu Xinyu’s oil landscapes capture the dark, luminous forests of his native northeast China.
Hadrien de Montferrand Gallery is the fist gallery in China entirely dedicated to original works on paper, specializing in this undeveloped field of contemporary art offering works in pencil, ink, gouache, felt, charcoal, watercolours, and any other medium used on paper.
