Jose Carlos Martinat: Manifiestos, 2014 at Art Basel Miami Beach Public

Jose Carlos Martinat’s audio-mechanical installation Manifiestos, 2014 consists of a series of synchronized pendulums that emit art manifestos (for example by the Futurists or the Stuckists) obtained from the internet. Each pendulum is moved by energy generated by the rotation of a bicycle wheel, which disrupts its inertia. The result is a cacophony of manifestos, driven by that “Bicycle Wheel”, that as a piece of art has shaped the way contemporary art is viewed.

Jose Carlos Martinat was born in 1974 in Lima, Peru. The artist lives and works in Lima and Mexico City. His art is at the interface of real and virtual worlds, inspired by architecture and the urban milieu, as well as human and cyberspace memories.
