James Capper: Mountaineer Prototype, 2015

James Capper is known for his man-operated machines, which leave physical traces of their performances. He classifies his kinetic sculptures into five categories: Aviation, Carving, Earth-Making, Material Handling and Offshore. James Capper’s Mountaineer Prototype (from the Material Handling Division) was chosen to be part of the Public sector of Art Basel Miami Beach 2015. The machine is remotely operated via a control panel connected to a power pack. The sculpture walks around by extending and planting its four telescopic legs. This video shows the Mountaineering Prototype performing on the occasion of the Public sector opening night.
