In this video we have a look at the exhibition Eins, zwei, Wechselschritt – 50 years of ART COLOGNE and the avant-garde in Contemporary Art in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands at special exhibition that was part of Art Cologne 2016. The curators, Ellen de Bruijne and Stella Lohaus talk about the concept of the show and the works on display.
The exhibition takes a look at 50 years of exchange and the mutual influence among artists from Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. Under the title Eins, zwei, Wechselschritt – 50 years of ART COLOGNE and the avant-garde in Contemporary Art in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, one artist each from Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, who were characteristic of the respective decade, are presented in five sections. Featured are works by Stanley Brouwn, Joseph Beuys, Marcel Broodthaers (1967-1976); Panamarenko, Georg Baselitz, Ger van Elk (1977-1986); Rosemarie Trockel, Wim Delvoye, Marlene Dumas (1987-1996); Joëlle Tuerlinckx, Manfred Pernice, Daan van Golden (1997-2006); Navid Nuur, Alicja Kwade, Peter Buggenhout (2007-2016). The sixth section refers to the year 2016 and presents three contemporary artists, Sine Van Menxel, Melanie Bonajo and Nora Schultz. The special event is curated by Ellen de Bruijne and Stella Lohaus, and is supported by the Mondriaan Fund, Flanders Arts Institute, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the General delegation of the Government of Flanders in Germany and Koelnmesse.
