VTV Classics (r3): Banksy: The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill (2008)

Ten years ago, street artist Banksy set up The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill in Lower Manhattan in New York. It was his first official exhibition in New York, a mock pet supply shop, “open for pet supplies / rare breeds / mechanically retrieved meat”. With this installation that featured sausages and hot dogs in terrariums, and fish sticks floating in a tank, Banksy wanted to “make art that questioned our relationship with animals and the ethics and sustainability of factory farming, but it ended up as chicken nuggets singing.” On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the show, we have re-mastered and re-edited the film.

Our series r3 highlights the treasures of VernissageTV’s huge archive. R3 is a series of VernissageTV classics, now re-mastered, re-edited and reissued in High Definition. Click here for the complete list of videos.
