Frieda Toranzo Jaeger at Arcadia Missa Gallery at Art Cologne 2021

At Art Cologne 2021, the gallery Arcardia Missa (London) showed kinetic artworks by Frieda Toranzo Jaeger. Frieda Toranzo Jaeger was born in 1988 in Mexico City. She studied Fine Arts at HfBK Hochschule Für Bildende Künste in Hamburg, Germany.

Frieda Toranzo Jaeger’s practice deals with the representations of masculinity and femininity in the visual culture of late capitalism. Asked why she chose painting as medium, Frieda Toranzo Jaeger answered: “As a queer woman of color, I feel a sense of urgency to respond with my work, to create conceptual spaces to decolonise and free ourselves from the heteronormative. Painting feels like the most immediate medium to do that.” (source: Queerdirect.com).

Recent solo exhibitions include Baltimore Museum of Art, Baltimore, MD, US (2021); Fantasies of Autonomy, Arcadia Missa, London, UK (2019); and Deep Adaptation, Galerie Barbara Weiss, Berlin, DE (2019).
