Karola Kauffmann is an textile artist and professional weaver from Germany’s Hotzenwald (Southern Black Forest). She embodies the rare craft of traditional handweaving with a modern twist of creativity and individuality. Her work transforms simple threads into poetic textiles, using a 19th-century loom. Her materials are as exclusive as her methods, selecting only the finest like cashmere, silk, and the rare yangir hair. Her dedication has earned her a niche but devoted clientele and recognition in the art world, with her works being acquired by museums for their exquisite craftsmanship and unique color compositions. Karola’s practice also involves preserving the weaving traditions of minority cultures, like the Miao and Dong in China, by collecting and promoting their textiles. This video provides you with a tour of her current show that runs until September 22, 2024.
