For the Art Basel starting in a week, German artist Katharina Grosse transforms the entire Messeplatz, including the fountain and the facade of Hall 2, into a colorful urban landscape. The title of the artwork is “CHOIR”.

Katharina Grosse’s art style is characterized by bold, large-scale, abstract installations and paintings that emphasize vibrant color, dynamic composition, and immersive environments. She is best known for her use of spray paint, applied with industrial spray guns, to create expansive, fluid fields of color that often spill beyond traditional canvas boundaries onto walls, floors, objects, and even outdoor spaces like the Messeplatz in Basel. Her work blurs the lines between painting, sculpture, and architecture, creating site-specific experiences that engage viewers spatially and sensorially.
