On the occasion of Kunsttage Basel (Switzerland), the art space Hebel_121 presents an exhibition and sound performance by the artist Isaak Altinyay.
Isaak Altinyay (born 2003) works as a visual artist and sound designer. His practice occupies the direct meeting point of Concrete Art and sound design. By investigating sonic patterns and mathematical sequences, he builds an interdisciplinary approach that moves between material, sound, and image. Every project follows a tightly defined structural logic and systems of measured repetition, setting aside narrative progression in order to emphasize the unmediated presence of sound and form in space.
The resulting work therefore shares the exactitude of geometric art and the reasoned clarity of design. His inquiry into sonic didactics — illustrated by his research on the functional purpose of ambient music — treats compositions not as vehicles for emotional reflection, but as independent, objective constructions governed by precise principles.
Altinyay established the basis of this practice while studying at the Haute école des arts du Rhin (HEAR) in Mulhouse. During that period, and through several significant group exhibitions, he began connecting frequency with spatial and sculptural architectures. Strongly shaped by unsynchronized loops and time-based systems in the lineage of Brian Eno, he employs a compositional method that is at once theoretical and technical.
This exacting trajectory has been further strengthened by conceptual discipline developed through close work with SYMETRIA Editions. Recently named art director of the publishing house together with Jean-Charles Kien and Christian Savioz, he brings to the organization his cross-disciplinary understanding of contemporary geometric abstraction. In parallel with his independent studio research, he now takes an active part in the publisher’s editorial development.
