Christine Hill: Volksboutique Official Template / ifa Gallery Berlin

Christine Hill (born 1968 in Binghamton, New York, lives and works in Berlin and New York) has been working on the project “Volksboutique” since the early 1990s. She first drew international attention to her work with this project at documenta X in Kassel in 1997. The work “Official Template” now on display at the ifa gallery in Berlin is part of Christine Hill’s “Volksboutique” project. “Official Template” is one of the most extensive activities in the framework of “Volksboutique”. With “Official Template” visitors become active participants in the artistic work by filling a questionnaire and taking a photo of themselves with a Polaroid camera. Up to now “Official Template” has visited 19 cities in 15 countries. Until today, 1,815 questionnaires have been returned to the ifa. The ifa gallery Berlin shows 200 of the Templates selected by the Christine Hill and invites visitors to take part in the action. The video shows impressions from the opening reception on 1st November, 2007. The exhibition runs through 1st January 2008.
