Jon Kessler: The Blue Period / Arndt & Partner Berlin

November 9, 2007

Arndt & Partner Berlin is currently showing the installation “The Blue Period” (October 31 – December 20, 2007) by the American artist Jon Kessler (born in Yonkers, NY in 1957). Jon Kessler received a BFA from S.U.N.Y. at Purchase, New York and attended the Whitney Museum Independent Study Studio Program, New York. Since then Jon Kessler has exhibited widely in America, Europe and Asia. Recently he exhibited at the “Haus der Kulturen der Welt (House of World Cultures)” in Berlin (exhibition “New York – States of Mind”, see our video). For “The Blue Period” at Arndt & Partner Jon Kessler created a complex installation using surveillance cameras, life size foam corn figures, and other objects and machines. “Jon Kessler creates ingenious spatial scenarios by juxtaposing kinetic multimedia and video installations with a disturbingly high number of surveillance cameras. Despite the technical sophistication, the devices don’t actually work – they only record and transfer to the screens what is to be found within the installation.” (Excerpt from the press release, text by Ludwig Seyfarth). Arndt & Partner Berlin, November 3, 2007.
PS: Currently he is also taking part in the exhibition “Art Machines Machine Art” at Schirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt, Germany (until January 27, 2008) and the Tinguely Museum in Basel, Switzerland (May 3 – June 29, 2008). Next solo exhibition at Reg Vardy Gallery in Sunderland, UK (January 22 – February 22, 2008).
