A Sermon On Art History by Theaster Gates and The Black Monks of Mississippi / Art Public, Art Basel Miami Beach

The Art Public Opening Night of Art Basel Miami Beach featured a special performance by artist Theaster Gates and the Black Monks of Mississippi. With A Sermon On Art History, Theaster Gates and the Black Monks respond to the works of art that are displayed at Collins Park in song and verse.

Theaster Gates is an artist and cultural planner. In his performances, installations, and urban interventions, Gates transforms spaces, institutions, traditions, and perceptions. Read more about Gates in Christian Viveros-Fauné’s article in ArtReview issue 56, January & February 2012.
