Since early in her artistic life Aleksandra Mir has taken a special interest in cartography as a tool for interrogating our received notions, addressing the subject in films, photographs and performances. For her exhibition in the Kunsthaus Zürich, she has realised a series of new large-format drawings on the subject of Islands; political, geographical and mythological. Mir’s exhibition is accompanied by a small publication which is available at the Kunsthaus-Shop. The upcoming edition of VTV’s PDF-Magazine will feature an interview with Aleksandra Mir. Interview with the curator of the exhibition “Aleksandra Mir: Switzerland and Other Islands“, Mirjam Varadinis, accompanied by images of the installation of the show. From 18 August to 8 October 2006 Kunsthaus Zürich is showing felt-pen drawings by Aleksandra Mir (born 1967). Aleksandra Mir has created a new series for this exhibition revolving around the notion of Switzerland as an “island”. In this interview Mirjam Varadinis talks about Aleksandra Mir’s work and the idea behind “Switzerland and Other Islands”.
