Alfredo Jaar – SCL

On the occasion of its tenth anniversary, the Telefónica Foundation in Santiago de Chile presented the first solo exhibition of Alfredo Jaar in Chile in twenty five years. Jaar left the country and established in New York, where he developed an outstanding trajectory in the contemporary art scene. The artist has traveled around the world to create his conceptual works, which make art turn its gaze towards the public sphere. Although he has exhibited with great success in the major art festivals, such as the Venice Biennial or the documenta in Kassel, Jaar was almost ignored in his country of origin. This exhibition, along with a series of seminars that brought the most distinguished artists and critics to Santiago, has contributed to reconcile the artist with Chile and invigorate this country’s emerging contemporary art scene. Claudia Zaldívar, director of the Gabriela Mistral Art Gallery, explains how this project took place. By VTV correspondent Pau Waelder.
