Bellini, Castiglioni, Sottsass, Zanuso… Vintage Electrical Applicances Design as Collector’s Item

Technology today is evolving at an incredible pace. Products become more intelligent and capable (i.e. smartphones). In spite of – or maybe because of – this development, it seems that many people look back at a more “analogue” time. They start to buy and collect classic cars, furniture, vintage turntables.

On the occasion of their recent design auction, we met with the design expert of the auction house Quittenbaum Kunstauktionen in Munich, Germany, Arthur Floss. He showed us several examples of modern design classics by famous designers such as Charles Eames, Marcello Nizzoli, Marco Zanuso, Richard Sapper, Ettore Sottsass, Hans von Klier, Mario Bellini, Rodolfo Bonetto, Achille Castiglioni, Roberto Lucci, Paolo Orlandini, Dieter Rams, Peter Hartwein, and Philippe Starck. In this video, he talks about the market for electrical appliances 1950-70s, and shows us designs by Charles Eames, Marco Zanuso, Richard Sapper, Achille Castiglioni, and Mario Bellini for companies such as Brionvega, Siemens, and Emerson Radio and Television.
