Christoph Büchel: Dummy (F-16)

Christoph Büchel’s piece DUMMY (F-16) was part of the exhibition “Church for Sale – Works from the Haubrok Collection and the Nationalgalerie Collection at Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin (28.11.21-19.6.22).

Exhibition text (excerpt): DUMMY (F-16) addresses modern warfare. DUMMY (F-16) is a life-sized plastic reproduction of a US F16 fighter jet, the most commonly used warplane. Inflatable replicas of aircraft like this are used in times of war to deceive the enemy. With his readymade, which can be seen in the museum’s inner courtyard at the beginning and end of the exhibition due to the weather, the artist transfers a wartime dummy to the public sphere and thus illustrates how the increasing mechanization of combat operations abolishes the separation between the battlefield and protected civilian areas.
