Eva & Adele are a Berlin-based artistic duo renowned for their lifelong performance art project. Claiming to be hermaphrodite twins from the future who arrived by time machine after the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, they live as a continuous “Gesamtkunstwerk.” Always appearing together in identical extravagant outfits—shaved heads, heavy makeup, ultra-feminine dresses, and high heels—they used the motto “Wherever we are is museum.” They produced paintings, photography (including extensive Polaroid diaries), videos, and installations while attending international art events. Eva, assigned male at birth, legally became female in 2011; the pair married that year. Recognized as one of the world’s longest-running performance art duos, they challenge gender norms and blur the boundaries between art and everyday life. This is a compilation of encounters with the two during Art Basel Miami Beach Week 2008.
