FRONT / Designer of the Future / Design Miami/ Basel 2007 / Interview

July 4, 2007

The Design Miami/ Basel Designer of the Future Award recognizes an emerging designer or collective that has been practicing for less than 15 years. This year, the Selection Committee chose Swedish design collective Front. Front is Sofia Lagerkvist, Charlotte von der Lancken, Anna Lindgren and Katja Sävström. At Design Miami/ Basel they present an on-site installation that showcases their portfolio. In this video, Anna Lindgren shows us some works, especially the “Magic Collection” (in the Magic collection, design pieces are made to make other objects disappear, a lamp that levitates, a chair balances on one leg and a chest of drawers separates and floats away) and tells us more about Front. Design Miami/ Basel, June 12, 2007.

[...] Swedish art collective Front has been named Designer of the Future. This just came in from Art Basel 2007 Miami where Front shows their “Magic Collection.” The group is made up of all women who studied together at Stockholm’s design academy Konstfack…they graduated in 2004. What a gift to all of us. In addition to their “Magic Collection” they show their “Sketch Furniture Collection” which came out of their motion capture and rapid-prototyping technologies turning freehand drawings into tangible objects. Take time to watch the whole video once you hit the link, cause you’ll see things you once took for granted that are no longer there. How to explain it? Magic. Anna Lindgren is featured in the image and does the interview, but she is only one of the four women..Sofia Lagerkvist, Charlotte von der Lancken, and Katja Savstom are the others….who make up Front.
