The Third Mind, Carte blanche à Ugo Rondinone / Palais de Tokyo, Paris

The Third Mind – Carte Blanche à Ugo Rondinone is one of a series of exhibitions at the Palais de Tokyo, site de création contemporaine, which gives an internationally renowned artist the freedom to conceive an entire exhibition. This time Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone had carte blanche and among the artists presented are Robert Gober, Toba Khedoori, Sarah Lucas, Paul Thek, and Andy Warhol. The exhibition title is derived from the title of the never published book “The Third Mind” by William S. Burroughs and Brion Gysin. “In homage to this book, Ugo Rondinone sets out to cut up and remix the contemporary artistic landscape to allow a new meaning to emerge from it. The Third Mind, composed from the assembled works of thirty-one different artists, constitutes a fully fledged work in its right, a new spectral work created by a third mind, a third artist, the product of the meeting between Ugo Rondinone and his selection.” (excerpt from the press release). The exhibition runs until the 3rd January 2008. The Third Mind – Carte Blanche à Ugo Rondinone, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, November 16, 2007.
