An Introduction to the Work of Balthus (3/12)

There’s a certain number of recurring motifs in Balthus’ oeuvre, the back figure is one of them. The motif appears in several of Balthus’ paintings, such as Cour de ferme à Chassy, Place de l’Odéon, Passage du Commerce-Saint-André and Les Beaux Jours. Fondation Beyeler’s Associate Curator Michiko Kono tells us more about this significant element in Balthus’ work (in German language with English subtitles).
