Discover the inaugural exhibition of the Fondation Beyeler’s newly expanded ensemble — the largest presentation of its collection to date. For the first time, around 230 works unfold across Renzo Piano’s Beyeler Museum, Peter Zumthor’s new Wyss Museum, the expanded park, and historic buildings.
The title draws on Alexander Calder’s Constellations (1943). Just as stars form shifting patterns in the night sky, the exhibition creates new dialogues between artworks, architecture, and nature. Selected rooms and groupings change seasonally, inviting visitors to experience the collection anew with every visit.
Highlights include major works by Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, René Magritte, Alberto Giacometti, Mark Rothko, Cy Twombly, Louise Bourgeois, Gerhard Richter, Roni Horn, Wolfgang Tillmans, and many others — spanning the 19th to 21st centuries from the Beyeler Collection and important loans.
On the occasion of the opening of Ruth Asawa‘s retrospective at Fondation Beyeler in Riehen (Basel, Switzerland) we had the opportunity to also look at the extension of the Fondation Beyeler’s campus and the inaugural exhibition of the Fondation Beyeler’s newly expanded ensemble. The show an unfolds across the new museum building designed by Peter Zumthor (Wyss Museum) alongside the museum building by Renzo Piano (Beyeler Museum), as well as the expanded park and the repurposed historical buildings. Bringing together around 230 works, the largest exhibition of its collection in the museum’s history will foreground the dialogue between art, architecture and nature for which the Fondation Beyeler is internationally renowned. Varied spaces, atmospheres and viewpoints will allow visitors to experience striking encounters with the artworks and their surroundings. This film starts with the Beyeler Museum, continues with the new park and the Wyss Museum, and finally provides you with impressions from the opening event.
